Arts-Kids Internships

As a youth development program Arts-Kids encourages young professionals to get involved within the cause to fully complete Arts-Kids purpose as a therapeutic and social change tool to help build communication, problem solving, and social skills, foster confidence and self-esteem. This summer, the organization opened it's doors for two Digital Media and Communication interns and one Development and Fundraising intern; in hopes that this opportunity would help these young professionals gain insight and experience working in a non-profit organization. Arts-Kids is excited to be mentoring young professionals who are eager to make a difference in the lives of children and our communities.

Janae Davis

Development/Fundraising Intern

From a young age Janae has developed a love for the arts that has continued to grow throughout her life. At the age of seven she began playing the violin and taking dance lessons. Dance soon became her passion and main discipline within the arts. Through dance she has been given many opportunities including training and performing with Odyssey Dance Theater’s pre-professional company, training with the Joffrey Ballet New York for a summer and receiving many scholarships to university dance programs, among which were The University of Utah’s Ballet and Modern department as well as Chapman University.

Janae attended Chapman University in Orange, California where she received a B.A. in Integrated Education Studies with an emphasis in Non-Profit Organizations and a B.A. in Dance. Janae was able to develop an even greater love of creativity during her time at Chapman. She plans to participate in educating young students on the power of the arts and help in bringing the same joy that she has found through dancing into other’s lives. Janae has a strong belief in the importance of the arts as well as education. She hopes that wherever her career takes her that she will be able to advocate and promote the arts allowing communities to grow and become enhanced by wholesome creativity.

Laura Penado

Digital Media and Communications Intern

Laura is the third daughter of a four daughter Salvadoran family. One small part of her family lives in El Salvador, the biggest part moved to the US back in February 2011 and she moved in August 2014, before heading to Taiwan. She was awarded a full scholarship to study her BA in Taiwan back in 2014. Laura decided to apply for this scholarship in 2013 because her education in El Salvador was slow and unaffordable, so she looked for better options. Laura is fluent in English, Spanish and speaks some Chinese.

She started working when she was eighteen, first at her family’s business, but then, at a call center; that made her learn and develop her customer service and communication skills. She is currently enrolled at Ming Chuan University in Taipei, Taiwan, she’s studying her BA, her major is Journalism and her minor is Mass Communication. During her free time she works for BBC London as a freelance broadcast assistant and she also gives private English lessons to Taiwanese and Japanese students.

She is also passionate about arts, education system, community involvement, social media interactions, marketing and PR. Her main career goal is to bring education and information to those who have no access to it, and to help arts become an important part of school's curriculum and a transformation tool for society.
