The Wasatch County School District has initiated an eight-week Arts-Kids pilot program. Citing a need for more high quality services after school in Wasatch County, the school district staff have participated in Arts-Kids formal training program to learn how to run after-school session in Wasatch for years to come.
The pilot program has been made possible in Wasatch County by grants from the Sorenson Legacy Foundation and the Wasatch School District.
JoAnn Memmott, District Arts Coordinator, and Holly Todd, Guidance Counselor are serving as program facilitators at Old Mill and JR Elementary schools. The eight-week after school sessions meet once a week at each school for two and a half hours. Professional artists a scheduled to provide experiences with dance, movement, visual arts and a didgeridoo!
“The Arts-Kids program covers all four art forms and would be a way for me to increase quality arts programs in dance, drama, and music,” said JoAnn Memmott, Wasatch Arts Education Coordinator. “I also like the methodology of the Arts-Kids program as a nurturing vehicle for children who are experiencing extra stressors in their lives.”
