Arts-Kids Makes School Transitions Fun

When young children transition to a new school between the 4th and 5th grade, the process can be can be full of fear and anxiety. Studies show that bullying and teasing can happen, not only because kids are “newbies", but also because the 4th grade “big man on campus” becomes a “little kid” again in middle school.

The Arts-Kids transition group at North Summit Elementary is a collaboration with Valley Mental Health. Kids will be mentored and engaged in activities that will guide them towards a stronger self-image while having fun doing art.

About the Program:

• The program is FREE to all participants and is open to 10 students.
• It will be held for six weeks, August 9th-September 16th from 2:30-4:30 pm at North Summit Elementary School in Coalville.
• Fun art projects, field trips, and group activities will all work to achieve this goal.
• Field trips, such as to the Friends of Animals Ranch, will teach empathy and allow students to connect with their emotions and the emotional experiences of others.
• The goal of the group is to create a space for students to discuss their fears and anxieties about the upcoming school year and gain helpful coping mechanisms

If you think your child will struggle with his or her transition to a new school and may be in need of a program like this, call Arts-Kids at 435.615.7878.
